IT Asset Decommissioning and Secure Data Destruction for IT Departments and Data Centers

In IT Departments and Data Center environments, when data-bearing devices reach their end-of-life, it is critical to ensure secure data destruction and environmentally sustainable IT Asset recycling.  When you consider how much corporate data contains sensitive information such as customer records, financial data, intellectual property, trade secrets, and more, the volume of vulnerable information stored in the computers of the average company is staggering, and the responsibility for the secure data destruction for company data critical.  When it comes time to retire outdated hardware or decommission storage devices, simply deleting files or formatting drives is not enough to ensure data security. Even erased data can be recovered using sophisticated tools, posing a significant risk from data breaches, identity theft, and regulatory non-compliance.  Disposal of data-bearing devices with the wrong partner can lead to data breaches, costing millions of dollars and making embarrassing headlines.

The End-to-End Securis Process – Comprehensive, Secure, and Auditable

Securis offers much more than just shredding and recycling services.  Securis has developed a fully secure, end-to-end process that meets all regulations to ensure a compliant, leak-proof chain of custody.  Our clients have the confidence and proof that not only is company data totally destroyed, but end-of-life IT assets are disposed of securely and with minimal environmental harm.  We first assess any residual value in your end-of-life electronics.  If parts can be re-sold, our Value Return program will ensure you receive a fair market value for these assets.  Our process includes securely erasing data from various types of storage media, including hard drives, solid-state drives (SSDs), magnetic tapes, and more, using NSA-approved data destruction techniques such as wiping,  degaussing, shredding, and disintegration. Disintegration is a proprietarily-engineered solution that grinds drives into 2mm pulp, as prescribed by the NSA. Securis ensures that sensitive information is irreversibly destroyed, leaving no trace of recoverable data behind. l Securis monitors and documents the entire end-to-end process for IT assets being retired. You will receive a full auditing and reporting inventory and a certificate of destruction at the end of the process, all of which are available 24/7 on our Client Portal.

Complaint and Certified

Not all data destruction services are created equal. Another key benefit of partnering with Securis on your Data Center decommissioning project is the assurance of compliance with all relevant regulations and industry standards.  While compliance needs will vary based on company type, Securis is compliant with NAID, R2v3, ISO9001, ISO14001, and ISO4500, NIST 800-88 standards, NISPOM 32 CRF Part 117 (which has replaced DoD 5220.22-M) data sanitization, HIPAA/HITECH, Sarbanes-Oxley Act, Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, FACTA Disposal Rule, Bank Secrecy Act, Patriot Act of 2002, Identity Theft and Assumption Deterrence Act, US Safe Harbor Provisions, FDA Security Regulations, PCI Data Security Standard and other local, state, and federal regulations

Environmental Matters

When you are tasked with IT Asset disposition for a data center or IT department, security is a primary concern; however, you may also need to consider what will happen to your soon-to-be-retired assets.  Is there any residual value to these assets?  If so, you can claim it through our Value Recovery Program.   If there is no value in your e-waste, how will these assets be recycled? Retired electronics contain mercury, lead, arsenic, and other materials with stringent recycling and disposal requirements.  Many companies care about their ESG ratings and want to ensure their e-waste is sustainably recycled. For assets that cannot be reused, Securis is R2v3 certified, which means we comply with rigorous standards for responsibly recycling all parts of your electronic assets.  In addition, we insist that our downstream recycling vendors complete an Agreement for Responsible Disposal of Sensitive Materials. Our trained technicians follow strict guidelines to ensure your retired data center assets are disposed of in the most environmentally friendly way possible, meeting all local and federal regulations for the disposal of electronic equipment.

The Result

You have the confidence and proof that your data is totally destroyed and your unused IT assets are handled in an environmentally responsible manner. In addition, our clients receive detailed inventory lists for all Assets and a certificate of destruction. Investing in certified data destruction is not just a matter of good practice; it is an essential step in preserving the integrity and trustworthiness of your company.

Securis recently performed a data destruction job for a large telecom company that had 300 servers to be destroyed. Securis was told that all servers had been stripped of their hard drives. Once the servers were at our facilities, our technicians found 30 hard drives still in the servers! Each contained data that would have caused a very expensive data breach.
