Securis: A Track Record of Excellence in IT Asset Disposal Solutions

Securis History

Originally founded as PC Recycler in Albany, NY by current Securis CEO Jeremy Farber, Securis has been setting the standard for effective IT asset disposal (ITAD), data destruction, and electronics recycling for more than 20 years. Originally conceived as a means of assisting companies with the responsible disposal of their obsolete electronics, Securis has become an industry-leading provider of secure green solutions for IT asset disposition.

Securis Early Days

Securis’ (at the time PC Recycler’s) first client was the New York division of Coca-Cola Enterprises. The exemplary removal services provided for the worldwide soft drink conglomerate put Securis in demand. Soon, the organization began fielding requests from all across New York. To accommodate this demand Securis acquired its first warehouse in Albany

Hard Drive Destruction Service Begins

In 2004, Securis (then PC Recycler) made hard drive destruction services available to its customer base. This service was the logical next step for Securis because it continued to serve out the firm’s mission of providing environmentally sound solutions for the secure, effective management and removal of any organization’s end-of-life electronic assets, but could now safeguard while also safeguarding the integrity of each customer’s sensitive information.

Successful growth led to a market expansion in 2005 for the young firm. After relocating to the Washington, D.C. metro area, Securis became the first local provider of electronics recycling and data destruction as a singular service. Overwhelming interest fueled the organization’s rapid growth; by 2006, Securis doubled its facility size to service demand.

Community Recycling Events Begin

August 2005 saw the launch of Securis’ Community Drop-off Event, a program that allowed individuals to recycle personal electronics, including computers, fax machines, and cell phones. While Securis does not focus on community recycling for our core business, we still hold occasional community recycling events to help community members recycle their electronics responsibly.  To date, more than 10 million pounds have been collected and recycled for the good of the environment and the local community.

Mobile Services Added

Mobile hard drive and tape destruction services were made available by Securis in 2006. In 2008, Securis expanded mobile data destruction to mobile hard drive shredding and degaussing, making it one of the few companies in the United States to offer such a specialized service. In early 2009, Securis joined the GSA Schedule 36 of approved contractors to provide data destruction services to the United States Government.

Degaussing and Disintegration Services added

In 2010, Securis added on-site degaussing services to their portfolio and implemented capabilities to provide on-site, high-speed degaussing and shredding. In 2012, the company obtained R2v3 certification and earned the Inc 500 fastest-growing private companies award.

In 2013, Securis added micro shredding technology, also called disintegration, to our service portfolio, allowing for data destruction that goes beyond traditional shredding and pulverizes devices into 2MM e-crumbs. The company also added a customer inventory portal and an advanced cloud-based mobile inventory tracking system. The following year, Securis began offering franchise opportunities.

Continued Growth and Opportunity

Securis partnered with Service Source in 2018 to provide additional employment opportunities for people with disabilities, and added a second warehouse, expanding the facilities from 12,000 to 22,000 square feet. The following year, in 2019, Securis created and implemented the customer rebate program, allowing agencies and organizations to save more on ultra-secure data destruction and IT recycling.

Continued Innovations and Striving for Best Practices

Since its inception, Securis has far exceeded projections in terms of demand and the amount of electronics processed in our plants. As an organization, Securis is proud of its innovation and position as a provider of green security services and will continue its mission of providing environmentally sound solutions for the secure, effective management and removal of any organization’s end-of-life electronic assets long into the future.
