Data Breaches Soar
The Identity Theft Resource Center reports that data breaches jumped by 47 percent last year to 656 reported breaches, compared to the previous year.
Broken out by sector, the ID Theft Center reports that the business sector saw the largest number of breaches, 240; followed by Educational with 131, government and military with 110, health and medical with 97, and financial and credit with 78.
According to ITRC reports, only 2.4 percent of all breaches had encryption or other strong protection methods in use. Only 8.5 percent of reported breaches had password protection.
