Securis Recognizes CSDS

The National Association for Information Destruction (NAID) newly launched their professional accreditation for the Certified Secure Destruction Specialist (CSDS) program. According to a press release issued by NAID, “This personal accreditation will serve as the premier designation for secure destruction industry personnel and will test for knowledge in areas such as regulatory and legislative compliance, risk management, physical security, information security principles and destruction systems and service operations and safety—among others.”

Securis believes that this certification is particularly vital because as an organization we strive to educate ourselves about regulatory and legislative compliance. When considering data destruction solutions, it is important to keep in mind the areas of possible risk, physical security, and information security principles. These areas are so essential that the consequences of oversight may cost a corporation anywhere from $750,000 to almost $31 million per incident – the Ponemon Institute provides research that the average cost of a compromised record is $202. Just imagine how many records are contained on one hard drive.

You may remember that in June of this past year, Securis was awarded NAID AAA certification for mobile destruction of computer hard drives. NAID is a nationally-recognized authority on secure data destruction with hundreds of members across North America. The CSDS training is another building block of NAID’s guidance of data destruction firms to comply with federal, state, and local regulations. We think legislation in this industry is changing so rapidly that our customers may not even be aware of the changes – and we want to stay educated for them so that we can help them react and be proactive.

Our customers are looking at us to be their last line of defense when it comes to data security so we make every effort to perform our due diligence in order to protect them. NAID CEO Bob Johnson says, “One of the ways to re-assure consumers that a service provider is capable of assuming the risk associated with handling data is by having qualified and knowledgeable personnel who have been tested on their industry knowledge. NAID’s new Certified Secure Destruction Specialist program is the only accreditation program specific to our industry and will help provide that reassurance for customers.”
