Data Center and IT Asset Decommissioning

Secure IT Asset Decommissioning for Data Center and IT Environments

IT departments and Data Centers face unique challenges regarding security and the retirement of end-of-life equipment. The more servers and data your company manages, the greater the risk of a data breach, which can cost millions of dollars and cause embarrassing headlines. With over 20 years of experience in decommissioning data centers and large IT companies, Securis understands the need for data center decommissioning services that maximize the value of retired hardware while ensuring that all data has been completely destroyed.

The average cost of a data breach id 4.35 million dollars.

Don’t put your data at risk!

For more than 20 years, Securis has learned and perfected the most effective methods to provide data centers and other organizations with high equipment value returns. Additionally, our trained and vetted technician crew is reliable, quick, and effective at recognizing the downstream potential for each part of every computer, memory card, server, and all related equipment. The Securis process ensures that your project follows a workflow that guarantees transparency and a clear chain of custody for all assets.

Environmental Matters

In addition to security considerations, recycling electronics comes with environmental considerations. Companies must consider the environmental impact of the improper disposal of their end-of-life equipment. The stakes are high. Retired electronics contain mercury, lead, arsenic, and other materials with stringent recycling and disposal requirements. Federal and state regulations should be considered, as well as good business practices. Our trained technicians follow strict guidelines to ensure your retired data center assets are disposed of in the most environmentally friendly way possible.

Data Center Decommissioning FAQ's

A scoped plan with asset inventory and labeling, rack and row de-racking, secure packing, removal and logistics, data destruction (wipe/degauss/shred), and final auditing and reporting (serialized inventory and Certificates of Data Destruction where applicable).  For a more detailed look at key considerations in retiring data centers please read this blog.

Yes. Our project managers coordinate procedures to reduce risk and downtime in live environments.

We tag and inventory devices, control handoffs, and track material using our triple-check process from de-rack to final destruction—maintaining a documented chain of custody throughout.

Depending on media type and policy, we perform wiping, degaussing, and shredding/micro-shredding (disintegration)—aligned to NIST 800-88 outcomes (clear/purge/destroy). Certificates are issued for eligible assets.

Yes. We can remove structured cabling, racks/cabinets, PDUs/UPS, and perform basic broom-clean services. Advanced make-ready can be scoped if required.

Operations align with R2v3, ISO 9001/14001/45001, and NAID AAA program controls. Where required, we can use equipment listed on the NSA/CSS Evaluated Products List (EPL).

Yes. Following secure media sanitization, eligible equipment can be remarketed to help offset decommissioning costs; assets without resale value flow into our certified recycling stream.

You’ll receive serialized inventory (where applicable), Certificates of Data Destruction, recycling documentation, and a closeout report—with files available 24/7 in the client portal.

We coordinate badging/escort, loading dock/egress, floor load limits, power isolation, and EHS requirements. Mobile destruction units are self-contained; facility power is typically not required for shredding.

Yes. We schedule multi-site work with centralized reporting and standardized documentation across locations in the United States.

We scope based on quantity, media mix, location(s), access constraints, and documentation needs. A detailed SOW includes milestones, throughput estimates, and staffing.  Request your free quote here.

Securis recently performed a data destruction job for a large telecom company that had 300 servers to be destroyed. Securis was told that all servers had been stripped of their hard drives. Once the servers were at our facilities, our technicians found 30 hard drives still in the servers! Each contained data that would have caused a very expensive data breach.
